Do you have the staying power?
Knowing what you want to achieve in your career or business is great, but the real question is “Do you have staying power?” What do you do if you don’t succeed right away? Do you give up or do you keep working at it? History books contain records of men and women who overcame adversity by not allowing failure, obstacles, disappointments etc., to stop them from fulfilling their dreams. People succeed not because they are destined to, but because they are determined to. This kind of determination is crucial for individuals who are keen to advance their career or organisations who want to grow. I agree with Rodolfo Costa’s point of view that if we do not sit still but keep moving, we will be creating alternatives and possibilities for ourselves and those around us. So again I ask: “Do you have the staying power?” Below are three of my favourite quotes: “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ― Calvin Coolidge “Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and devils. But if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? O be not weary of well doing!” – John Wesley “Thousands of people have talent. I might as well congratulate you for having eyes in your head. The one and only thing that counts is: Do you have staying power” – Noel Coward
